~ In  1992 I returned to part time performing as an acoustic guitarist after a ten-year hiatus (parenting etc), and discovered that there had been huge advances in pickups and pre-amps for acoustic amplification but still no decent speakers to run them through! At that time I had close to 20 years as a professional woodworker and more than that building speakers as a hobby, so a new career beckoned’Ķ
~ The beginning point was a two-way speaker designed primarily for acoustic guitar amplification, these soon found their way onto stages and into recording studios. An evolution began where some players were using the two-way guitar speakers to replace their PA speakers, so I made three-way PA speakers that then found their way into studios as mid field monitors. At that point it appeared developing this further to use for very tonally accurate home and reference systems was the next step.
~ It took about three years of design to make the leap from the 3 way pro system to the first DA-1 home speaker which debuted at the 2004 RMAF. My initial choices for this system still set the tone for my designs. In a nutshell: I made a conscious decision to not sacrifice any tone or harmonic detail in the bass for the sake of bass extension and to focus on the tone being as close to reproducing the sound of real instruments as possible. I also wanted the cabinets to be an elegant and subtle visual addition in most living environments, not a fashion statement. I felt that coupling these goals with high sensitivity would fill a niche that was not overrun with competing designs.
~ The next step was after the 2006 RMAF when I reflected on comments from customers and fellow exhibitors and decided to refine my designs’Ķ.
2007, back to the drawingboard, new drivers, crossovers, wire, bracing, and secret voodoo as well as two all new models made for individual listeners who want pin point imaging.
~ Though Daedalus had a small dealer network for the pro line of speakers I decided to only sell the home audio systems direct in the USA, there were many reasons for this (among them keeping the price within reason). The hidden benefit of this is my clients become an extended family and each piece feels like a personally commissioned artwork, enriching the whole process and bringing another level of value to me and to my clients.

"I could live very happily with this speaker till the end of my days... a stunning acomplishment!"

"The cabinet workmanship is absolutely beautiful. Even without the stands they are the most natural sounding, non-fatiguing speakers I have owned to date. The soundstage is wide and deep with solid, quick, defined bass, extended smooth highs and a glorious midrange. The cabinets are dead silent. I hear no cabinet resonance. Your theory of using natural real walnut is dead on. Awesome speaker!"
"My MA-1 amps are driving the Ulysses with aplomb. The bass is tight, defined, deep and very natural. I have no standing wave problems. I placed the Ulysses on the hardwood block and stands and it seems the sound stage got wider. They just keep me glued to my listening chair. They are truly remarkable speakers!"
